The process of hardcover book center is the same as that of paperback book center in folding, matching and stapling. In addition, the hardcover book center must also be specially processed. The process mainly includes: leveling, rounding, ridging, pasting gauze, decal head, etc.
(1) Leveling
It is carried out on a special leveling machine. After the book center is compacted, its thickness is thinner than the original one, and it is flat and solid, which is convenient for the next process.
(2) Raking round
Use the rounding machine to peel the back of the book center into an arc shape, so that the book stickers of the whole book are staggered, and form an inner arc at the incision for easy reading. The rounding can also make the book center more solid, and facilitate the connection with the book case, improving the binding quality.
(3) Ridging
It is to prevent the book center from returning to the round after being rounded, and to knead and shape the book center
(4) Apply gauze
On the back of the bookcase, paste gauze or hard paper to cover the sewing line on the spine, so that the spine is more firm.
(5) Applique head
It is also known as the spine pasting head. The cotton cloth or other fabrics are pasted on the two ends of the back of the bookcase to make the whole book more firmly connected and play the role of decorating the bookcase. The high-grade hardcover books are equipped with bookmark ribbons. Before the head is pasted, the bookmark tape is pasted on the gauze on the back.
After the hardcover book skin shell is made by the machine, it must be dried to remove the moisture in the adhesive during paste sealing and ensure the normal progress of the next process. There are two drying methods: natural drying and manual drying.
Natural drying takes a long time, usually more than a day. The manual drying time is short, and it can be dried by circulating air, or infrared drying, high-frequency drying, etc. Most printing plants in China use natural drying method.
It is mainly applicable to the gilding process of trademarks, packaging boxes, greeting cards, handbags and calendars in the paper packaging and decoration industry and the loose leaf binding of notebooks, calendars and desk calendars.
